Default started greencard application but visa is about to expire

My visa will expire in 2 months. We just started our green card application (have not submitted yet). Do I have to leave in 2 months since it's highly unlikely we are going to get a green card in 2 months. Please help us here. My husband won't be able to quit his job until the end of the year (at least). And we resent the idea of being seperated for half a year. Please help. Thanks a lot.

When your I-485 is received and accepted, your legal status doesn't expire with the visa. Provided that the I-485 is filed before your visa expires, your status is still legal even if the visa expires.
