H1 stamping expired, travel to India, return on AP?

Hello,
My H1B stamping expired some time back, but H1B visa extension is valid for a year.
Received my EAD and AP (485 is in process)-Planning to travel to India and return on AP without going for stamping.

Can I/should I move to EAD before leaving and continue to work only on EAD after I come back? Any issues with this?
Or should I/can I switch back to H1B after coming back?

Please advise.
