Default Reentry - no exit stemp

Last time when I left the US I travelled by via Canada and dont have an exit stemp in my passport.
Next month I am flying back to the US. How does the officer know, that I have not been out of the country longer then 6 months?
Do they see it on the screen?

There is no exit stamping at US International Airports. At US Intl. airports the airline check-in counter personnel collect the I-94 if applicable and/or your passport information is captured. That's how the US authorities know about your exit. I am not sure what actually happens at Canada land borders.
