How soon one can schedule an interview for the student visa ?

Dear Members,

If someone wants to start the school in Jan, 2013, then is it possible to get the F1 visa interview scheduled at US embassy, Delhi next month ( August, 2012 ) ? Will the visa still be valid until Jan,2012 if granted ?

I'm also planning to join in Spring2013. And wanted to go for visa in Dec2012.
