L2 to H1 B - GC ??

Hi Friends,
I am currently working on L2- EAD and my H1B is approved this year ( applied by the same employer).
Can my employer start my GC processing now? Should we wait until I move on H1B status?
I would like to check in this forum before I ask my employer to start my GC process.

GC is for future employment, it can be started anytime. This is my opinion, do consult experts too.
