Apply for a re-entry permit (form I-131). This will allow you to stay out for up to 2 years without losing your status. Usually, they issue it after a few months, so you might actually be able to stay out for more than 2 years (until the end of the validity of the document). You can re-enter the US as many times as you want with the document.

No additional documents. Just the application, a copy of your GC, and a cheque, I think. You can ask them to expedite it, but you have to have (or make up) a reason and put it in a letter, which you can send with the application. The whole process usually takes an average of 3-4 months, but once you give them your fingerprints and photo, you can leave the country and go home (so, within a couple of weeks, usually). In the application, you can ask them to send the re-entry permit (RP) to the US consulate there.

The N470 is to preserve continuous residence for naturalisation (applying for citizenship) when you are abroad, but it is very specific and involves working for US-based companies or international organisations abroad. You won't need it, and probably don't qualify for it.

Remember, since you will be out of the country for this long, you will have to wait a little longer once you move back to the US before you can apply for citizenshiip (about 4 years).

Sorry I didn't see your previous post in time. I presume you provided supporting documents to show you need the application to be expedited. Also, did you put the name of the consulate or embassy for the city where you will be?

You can now leave the country and wait for the RP to be approved and sent. Make sure someone is checking your mail at your US address because they might ask for more information (this is unlikely, but it is better to be safe).
