hi! i was a j1 visa holder. my ds2019 expired oct 4, 2012. then my lawyer applied for change of status to Q1 on nov. 4 taking into consideration the 30 day grace period. i left the USA on dec. 1 without waiting for the result of my pending Q1 application. my lawyer insisted that my status is legal while waiting for the result of the Q1. but i'm still having doubts. so my question is, did i overstay? will this have a big impact on me in the future if i apply for a visa?
