Default L1 Blanket Petition, does the consulate officer keep I-797 with him

Hello, I have a question regarding my L1. I got an L1 Blanket from my employer in 2009 and got my visa stamped in chennai consulate. Now I am unable to find my I-797. My question is , in case of L1 Blanket, does the consulate officer keep the original I-797 at the time of interview or it is returned back to the employee? Could you guys tell based on your experience?

First, you are not given original I-797 by the employer in case of blanket L1. They have only one original for all the cases - that is blanket L1.

Thanksfor your reply! ... but they still give an I-797 which is specific to me with my name on it... in order to apply for extension, they are asking me a copy of that. would that be something that the consulate officer may have taken? Anybody with L1 blanket, could advise what happened in their case?

You should have an I-129 and the I797 "Notice of Action". Presenting the I-129 should be enough for the extension.

In any case, your company immigration lawyer should be able to advise you on what is needed.
