Overseas assignment - Pl help

I got my green card last november and Most probably my family and I will have to relocate to switzerland on a 2-3 year assignment.

In what way if any will this overseas posting affect our green card and subsequently on citizenship . Is there anything I need to do in particular (besides filing taxes) to keep the green card

Not legal advise:
Is your US employer sending you to that assignment?

what I know is that over a year outside the US for any GC holder will cost him his GC automatically unless he/she filed I-131 (I think) prior to departure. Doing so will allow him/her to stay outside for upto 2 years.

What you should do:
* Talk to a lawyer.
* File I131 before departure for every green card holder in your family/party prior to departure.
* Arrange to come back to the US every year or every half year for vacation (all GC holders). File I131 before departing from US.
* Get a letter from your employer stating the nature of your employment abroad, to show INS officials at US immigration.

You probably can also resign saying that I140 job description does not fit this new position (assuming it does not).

Does it mean that if I file I131 we can be abroad for 2 years without jeopardizing gc /citizenship.

Does anyone know what needs to be done after 2 years ?

already answered that:

I131 is good up to 2 years period.

I do have a couple of doubts that I would like to clarify

I know that the rentry permit is good for 2 yrs but returning after 2 years however will break the period of continuous residence necessary for citizenship. If I return back within 360 days (slightly less than a year) will this break the period of continuous residence.

Also I heard that you can file the application for citizenship after 4 years and 9 months. Is this right or not. how long does it take to get the citizen ship. During this period is it possible to get rentry permit .

I think more than 180 days in US is required for each year of the five.
You may want to look at N470 and discuss it with your lawyer.

any idea on the citizenship process and how long the process would take once it is filed. can we file it after completion of 4 yrs and 9 moths. IS it possible to get renetry permit ( for the family)after that assuming that my family stays back until the completion of 4 yrs and 9 months. and if I still continue in that job
