Default L2: SSN before EAD, is it possible?

    Hi,

My wife recently arrived to the US on L2. We are located at NY, and as far as I know to get local driver license you need to have SSN. The question is, can she get SSN before her EAD request is being approved? From the information in the internet, its not clear. and if not, how can she get local driver license (in NY)?

    Thanks in advance,

    startupnation.

One does not need SSN to get DL. Just apply at the DMV.
But L2's can get SSN without EAD. Check with local SSA office.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

Of course she can get SSN. My wife got SSN long time back on L2. We never applied for EAD for her. She is still on L2 and I am on L1B.
