Time one can be away after getting GC

Hello
Myself and my wife obtained the I551 stamp through CP. It was in April this year. My wife had gone to India on vaccation. She plans to be away for 4 months. What are the rules regarding staying outside the states after GC. Is it less than 6 months or less than 6 months in a calender year. Where can I get some info on this. Thanks for the help.
