  • asylum for stateless Palestinian

    hi all

a friend of mine living in Jordan , having a temporary Jordanian passport only two years passport , "stateless Palestinian "

what are the requirements to apply for asylum in his case ? whats the chances to get approved or refused ...........................any insight will be highly appreciated

In what country does he intend to apply for asylum?
To apply for asylum in the U.S., he must first physically be in the U.S.

Success with an asylum request depends on the credibility of his evidence supporting his asylum request.

        Wisley,

The claimant must first arrive in the U.S. or be allowed asylum at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate (in my opinion).

Asylum claimers can make verbal claims that can be authenticated by media reports: political unrest in specific countries, laws that might be interpreted as persecution (China one-child laws), etc.

I've had contact with three such asylum seekers in the U.S.:
        1. A Chinese national who claimed that the "one-child laws" in China would affect her if she returned to China. Though her claim (encouraged by an immigration attorney in the SF Bay Area) was denied as frivolous, she was given about two years before required Immigration Court hearings.
        2. A Filipino woman whose husband had been murdered by political activists in Luzon, Philippines. Her claim was initially accepted, but when asked what would happen if she returned to the Philippines, she replied "nothing." She was denied.
        3. An Afghan who claimed he was at risk from religious extremists if he returned to Afghanistan. His claim was initially denied by Immigration Court, based on media reports at the time that Taliban activism was not a risk for him.

He needs to get to the U.S. first, then provide evidence of his reasons for claiming asylum.

Unless he had political problems in Israel or wherever he spent most of his time, and has proof of not being able to stay where he is or to return from where he came, a claim for asylum for a Palestinian could be an uphill battle.
