How many days before my visa expires shall i return to USA

Hi ,

My visa stamp on passport is valid till Sept1 , and i plan to Travel to India. Can you suggest me please by when maximum i shall return to USA. My plan to come back by aug 20 , Is that okay , safe??
My work visa is valid till sept 2015.

Technically you can enter till the last date of the visa, but if the POE officer gives you I-94 only till visa expiry date, 01-Sep-2014, then you pretty much have very limited time to file for extension after entering US.

This can potentially become a problem example, if your licence is expiring on 01-Sep-2014 too and you get I-94 only till 01-Sep-2014, you would not be able to renew the license till getting the extension approved along with a new I-94.
