Can we stay after I-94 expiry until the I-539 (extension) decision comes.

I have applied I-94 extension (I-539 form) for my parents. I received the receipt pretty fast, in about a weeks time. The receipt date at Neb was 45 days before the current I-94 expiration. I am not sure how many days it takes or its taking but are we alloed to stay beyond I-94 expiry until we get the decision?
Please share your experience.

You can stay till you get the response. If it is a denial after the expiry of I-94, you must
leave immediately. If it is an approval, you can stay till the date on
the new I-94.
