  • F1 processing taking beyond normal time of 2.5 months and current H4 nearing expiry!

    Hi all,

I'm currently under H4 visa. My Visa expires on 31 August 2014. For an extension of H4 visa I am required to contact my husband company no later than 4 days from now., i.e., by 25/07/2014.

    Meanwhile,
I had applied for F1 visa on 3 May 2014. It is still under 'Intial Review' stage. It is now more than 2.5 months which is their normal processing time.
When I called USCIS today, I was informed that end of April applications are currently being processed and hence my application would take another 2-3 weeks for approval/decision. My classes begin from 11 August 2014.

Since I cant afford for that extra 2-3 weeks now, the situation forces me to go ahead with H4 extension.

So, I wanted to know if,
    1. I apply for H4 visa extension, do I need to cancel my F1 processing?
    2. Is there any harm if two I-539 forms( one for extension and other for change of status) are in process at the same time?
    3. Can I apply once again for F1 visa after I get my new H4?

Please suggest me the right way forward.

    Thank you
    AVR.
