How long can you wait between K1 petition approval and K1 visa application submission

I was wondering how long one can wait to apply for the K1 visa at their respective embassy after the K1 petition is approved. When the K1 Petition is approved and submitted to the embassy (Moscow in my case), will they set up an interview automatically, or will we have time in between these two steps?

We are going to work with a lawyer on the process starting next month, and I'm just a little worried that the process may move too quickly (not likely, but what if...).
