My parents have green cards, and they've never been out of the states for more than 6 months. They haven't been able to fully wrap up their lives in their home countries just yet, so they've been going back and forth for the past few years, and they've spent most of the time in their home country.
In their most recent visit, the immigration officer guided them to the immigration room, and there they were told they are not spending enough time in US, and that this is a notice for them to do that. They didn't lose their green cards, nor were they given any specific deadline. They need a couple more years before they can fully commit to living here, so they can't really fully stay here right now. They're worried if they try to apply for the re-entry permit, they might not be able to get the green card again, plus, that'll reset the clock on their citizenship requirement (2.5 years in 5 yrs). So, our questions are:
1. What are the potential outcomes if they don't do anything today, go back to their home country in a couple months and come back 5 months from then? Is it likely they'll go through a tougher process (or possibly revoke green card or asked to go to court)?
2. Any other options/alternatives?
