Plz help!! Extension of Tourist visa

Hi,

My mother has B2 Tourist visa till Oct5th 2006 and her I-94 is valid till Sep 30th 2006. Can we apply for the extension of her visa?

Is it true that you can only apply for extension only if you have 10 year visa, then extend I-94?

I am confused with this I-94 extension and visa extension.Please help!!

Visa is only for the purpose of entry into US. After you have entered,
it is the I-94 that matters. I-94 tells you the type of visa qualification(B1 or B2) you will have while in US and it has an expiry date on it. When you apply for an extension, you are applying for an extension of the date on the I-94 and NOT the extension of the visa validity. If the extension is approved, you will get a new I-94 with a new date on it. Extension of stay has no relation to the vaildity of the visa stamp on the passport. And it does not matter if you have a 6 month valid visa or a 10 yr visa.
