Laid off as a 1099 contractor before STEM F1-OPT extension approval

I was contracting for a US firm as 1099 independent contractor via contracting agency. I was laid off today and my contracting agency would be soon getting a call to verify my employment. My OPT is expiring on Feb 8th 2016. What are my options? Should i contact USICS and report the change of status or ask my contractor to have my back? should i consider applying to colleges to keep my F1 status?
