  • I-94 update - leaving US

I’m a Brazilian and I hold a H1B visa, which expires in 2017. I have an air ticket to Brazil in December 23, however, due to work problems I need to stay in US. It is not a direct flight and it has the following itinerary: Saint Louis – New York, then New York – Washington DC and then Washington DC – Sao Paulo, Brazil.
I would like to know if it is possible to take this flight and use only the first boarding pass (Saint Louis – New York) since I’m planning to spend a few days in New York City, and then discard the other boarding passes (New York to Washington DC and Washington DC to Brazil). I called the airline (United) and they refuse to give me only the boarding pass to New York City without paying a huge fee. If I take all boarding passes and stay in New York, will I have problems with my I-94, since I’m not leaving US?
