I have an old (2002) shoplifting case on my record (for less than $25) that was Nolle Prosequi. In 2011, I got my employer sponsored greencard - where I had to go for an interview which seemed like a formality - the interviewer did ask about the shoplifting charge and I explained that it was a misunderstanding.
I am eligible to apply for citizenship (have no other issues) in 2016 and want to know if applying through a lawyer is necessary (given the background) or a regular self application will suffice.
