Hi
I am a graduate student in NYC on F1 status and visa; My I20 is till 26.05.2016. After graduating I want to backpack around central america for 3-4 weeks and then leave the US on 23.06.2016.
Since I can't re-enter the US during the 60 day grace period, I was thinking of applying for pre-completion OPT in March, getting the EAD by April-end and then traveling as planned in May-June. I already have an on-campus job and I can carry that contract with me in the rare case CBP asks for proof of employment on re-entry in June. [I am ready to bear the $380 OPT charge, it's still cheaper than flying to central america from my home country)
1. Does this sound feasible / practical?
2. I realise that after I return to my home country the SEVIS record will automatically expire on 26.08.2015 (90 days unemployment after end of studies) -- is this a 'black mark' on my record? i.e. will this be held against me if I apply for a visa in future?
