I am currently on in the US on a J1 (postdoc researcher in academia) with the 2-year Home Residency Rule. I am also in the waiver process and waiting to hear from the immigration for their decision.
I have an offer from the industry. I believe I would need either an H1/O1 to work for the industry.
My questions:
1. Can the company sponsor my O1 even though I am still in the J1 waiver processing phase.
2. Or must my current academic institution sponsor my O1?
3. Or can I approach a Law firm and apply for the O1 by myself.
4. Are there any quotas/lottery/time lines for applying for O1 (similar to J1)
