Affidavit of Support - Question
Hello,
My wife and I sponsored her mother's immigration to the States and have been supporting her fully in our home as planned since her arrival many months ago. Against all recommendation, she's decided to use the last of her personal money to move to New York in an attempt to make a "life" of herself. If she leaves, we have no way to fulfill the requirements of supporting her and, based on what we've read, it sounds like she could at some point try to sue us for that support should she want to. She has absolutely no means to support herself and is very likely the type of person who would sue.
Are there any clear guidelines as to what $ figure constitutes "support" and how we can protect ourselves from someone who won't accept support yet may still sue for it?
