departing the u.s

i have lived in the u.s for a couple of years, i came in on visitors visa, and did not leave. i have since lost my passport and all immigration documentation. i just got a replacement passport with nothing in it. will i be able to leave the country to go back home without problems? when departing the country what do they check? do they check anything at all? someone please respond asap
