So my boyfriend is from Canada and he is here in the states on an F1 visa. Or so we thought. He works at his school and they gave him a I-539 Form and said that he needed to fill that out and send it in with a $290 money order. He did so and it was sent back as rejected. I did research today and it seems like as long as his passport is stamped F1 until D/S, his I-20 says he has to complete his studies no later 09/30/2017, and he paid his SEVIS he was good to go as far as his status until after he's finished with school. I probed him for more info on what his school needed and he mentioned an updated I-94. So I logged in to see his latest I-94 and it says that his status is B2. Which is shouldn't be. His last I-94 we have printed says F1 and last June when we visited Canada he has a stamp from re-entry that has F1 until D/S. I'm just confused on how his status could have changed from F1 to B2. Any advice or feedback would be appreciated.
