Applying for J1 VISA, while as a visitor in Canada

Hi,

I got a job offer (post doctoral fellow in the George Mason University, VA, USA).

Presently I am in Victoria, BC, Canada and holding a visitor VISA.

Can I apply for a J1 VISA while I am Canada? Will it be too much of a hassle?

Applying for J1 VISA, while as a visitor in Canada

i don't think you can apply to the US consulate for a J1 while on a visitor's visa. i would suggest writing to the US consulate in toronto directly to ask. generally, when applying for a US visa in a country other than your country of origin, you need to show proof of residence status. proof of living and working there.
