J2 EAD extension

I am writing to you to inquire about my EAD extenson. The expiration date for my J2 visa is 10th of August so as my employment authorization card.
I just received the form "DS-2019" in which the responsible officer has authorized a 6-months period extension.

I am a bit confused. This extension is not mentioned in my passport. Would the form that I received be enough for EAD application?

J2 dependent can work

I am writing to find out if J2 visa holder will get work authorization even if J1 doesn't have any income and is currently participating in research at Mayo clinic. Could you please let me know if a letter explaining all the funds availability for J1 be sufficient to get an approval.
