Default L2 visa for my child

    Hi,

I am right now in USA on L1 visa. My wife already has her L2 visa stamped on her passport, but she has never travelled to USA till now.

She is expected to deliver our baby in a month. My question is regarding the L2 visa for our child.

Does our child need to get his/her own passport before applying for the US consulate interview?

I heard through some source of information that in earlier days, new born babies are allowed to get their US visa stamped on their mother's passport.

Is that true? Could anyone of you let me know if that is still valid?

    thanks in advance....

---- Old days are over. This is new era. Refer to the vfs website for details.

My wife and I have an interview appointment for the next month. We just had a newborn baby. How do I fix an appointment for my child?

However, following is the extract from the vfs website

Only for newborn babies exceptions are made.
    (1) Please go to HDFC Bank and purchase a visa fee receipt in the name of your child.
    (2) Log on to the website http://evisaforms.state.gov and complete the e-visa form DS-156.
    (3) You may then get your baby along with you for the Interview.
    (4) Original passport, e-visa form DS-156 and HDFC Bank fee receipt of the baby along with your supporting documents should be carried for the Interview. If visa is granted the baby’s passport will be handed over to VFS for courier delivery.

    Thanks for your information.

In that case, since myself and my wife already have eligble visa to travel to the USA, will our child be granted any priority in getting the visa interview? Or does he/she has to wait for 6 months to get the visa interview date? (Currently, in Chennai consulate, it is 6 months waiting time)

---- You have to keep trying for the appointment. Alternately, speak to the vfs people and email the US Consulate where you want to seek an appointment to get the visa stamped for your child
