Hello
I have a J-1 visa which will expire by the end of next February, however, my DS-2019 will be extended till March 2018.
My question is:
Can I apply for extending my visa at some consular post (for example Montreal) before my visa expires?
If the answer is yes, and assume they need time for administrative processing, can I re-enter the US with my old visa until they decide on my new visa? or will they stamp my old visa with 'cancelled without prejudice' which forces me to stay outside the US until they resolve the case?
Thank you,
