L1A extension premium submitted, do I have to leave the country during the pending?

Hi,
do I have to leave the country?

1. Premium submitted L1A extension
2. USICS recieved it
3. they requested additional info - submitted already.
4. Do I have to leave the country when the visa expires?
5. Can I leave the country, and use ESTA right away and come back for business meetings?

Spouse:
Has my wife to leave the country if my L1A extension is pending and hers is in pending application?
