Is parents' green card invalidated if the petitioner(applicant s son) dies?

I am asking this for a friend of mine who is a green card holder for 3 years now. Tragically he has already lost his son who applied GC for his parent. What will happen to the parents' green card in such a situation?

Can they hold their green card? Any comment and advice appreciated?

My friend could keep his GC for 3 years by staying in USA, 6 months per year in the last 3 years.
This year his son, who applied GC for him, passed away.
Now my question is that whether my friend can hold his greencard while the petitioner (his son) passed.

If he already has his Green Card, death of his petitioner will not affect his Green Card status.
