I am having a specific question on the counting of stay in US as a Green card holder. I am sure my friends in the Forum would try to assist me.
We entered US with GC on 15th July 2016. We are going to stay in US until 25th December and then would like to be away from US for a duration of maximum 3 to 4 months.
We want to know:
(i) what is the criteria of counting a green carder' stay in US, whether the counting is by calendar year or from the date of our entry, i.e. From 15 July 2016 to 14 July 2017?
(ii) Secondly, we are planning to be away from US on a short trip , from 25 Dec, 2016 for 3 to 4 months and return to US towards end of March 2017.
My questions are : (i) Can we be away from US just after spending only 5 months in this calendar year of 2016 ( if they consider Calendar year), secondly (ii) how long we can be away from US , so that we will not be questioned at the port of entry when we reenter?
