My question is that if a green card holder will be allowed to come back to US after one year of absence?

My dad has been approved GC and is living with us for the past 3 and half years. He wants to visit India and stay for one year with extended family. Is it possible to do that? Do I have to fill out any forms for that. Appreciate your response and help. Thanks
