GC holder - Stay outisde USA for one year

Hi,
My dad has a GC and is staying with us for 3 and half years. He visited India last year and came back within 3 months. Now he wants to go back early next year and want to spend time with extended family for one year. Do I have to do any paperwork for that? I really appreciate your response and help in this regard.
