Do I need to re apply for F1 for Ph.D. after masters?

I am a former student of X university in the USA, graduated in June 2015. Currently, I am working on my STEM OPT Extension. I have been accepted as Ph.D. Candidate at the X University, starting tentatively in April 2017. My current F1 visa(by which I cam in the USA for Masters) is valid up till July 2018.

Question: When I join as Ph.D Student in April (I understand my OPT will cease and I would not be able to work off campus), can I start my Ph.D. studies with current F1 Visa, or do I need to reapply for F1 Visa(for my Ph.D. studies)?

Nope. Typically the International Students office in your university issues a new I20 extending your study duration. You need a visa only for entering the country. When you travel outside the US, and want to re-enter, then you would need this new I20 to get a new visa stamped.
