  • I-94 for visitor Visa given for 1 year

    Hi,

My parents came to USA NOV-2016 on visitor visa (Tourist, B2) and they got the I-94 for 1 year(until NOV-2017).Is it OK to stay in US for more than 6 months as the maximum period of stay for B2 visa is 6 months?

    Thanks!
    Aditya

This must be a mistake. They should not stay more than 6mons.
This is not a legal advice. Use at your own risk.

Entry port officers have the authority to approve B2 stays of up to a full year, if requested, but not that frequently.

Historically, very elderly entrants may ask for and receive a full year (happened to a French national I know who received full year allowable stays twice in a row). She was in her early 90's then.

About 15-20 years ago, there was a period when Chinese students were allowed a full year with the expectation that many would ask for political asylum.
