  • Is it possible to go from F-1 (post OPT) to ESTA to extend time in USA?

    How are you?

I tried searching for this and could not find this. I am presently in my 1 year post OPT on the F-1. The Post OPT expires early in February, I am aware I get a 60 day 'buffer' period after. So, my question is, am I able to leave early April (That will be the end of my 60 day buffer) and then return on a ESTA visa (I am Dutch).

If there is any other possible scenarios that will give me an extra couple months, I am open to suggestions. I have also thought about applying for more schooling with outcome to cancel this application thinking I can get more time if my application are pending.

    Any help would be awesome!

    Thanks!

Yes, you can leave and try to return on VWP (there is never a guarantee that you will be let in, of course). You could also apply for Change of Status to B2 status in the US, but that costs several hundred dollars.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Thanks for reply. I figured this with re-entering and there not being a guarantee. I will look into the B2.

      Thanks so much!
