  • Suggest Insurance to cover vision

    Hi,

My parents are set to travel to USA in 2 weeks.
My father will stay for 1 month and he takes daily Blood Pressure medicine and very recently he has some vision problem for which the doctor has said at present everything is normal and there is nothing to do, but there are chances of him needing an immediate eye laser surgery in case his retina gets detached. - At present it is not and it is fine but there are chances.

My mom will be there for 5 months and will carry here regular medicines for thyroid and daily vitamins.

I plan to get a comprehensive insurance for them as two separate policies which cover acute onset of pre-existing.

I need advice on insurance that covers vision surgery of laser for retinal detachment incase it occurs while my father is in the US. I'm not sure if this will be considered pre-existing as at present there is no issue. it is just a precaution.

I'm looking for PPO type insurance in IL. How can I confirm if a particular hospital is covered by the insurance i finally choose before buying?
Is comprehensive a co-pay kind of insurance where for checkup they have to pay just 20$?

    1. There is no such plan that would cover your father's eye problem. It is clearly a pre-existing condition.
    2. There is no concept of copay in visitors insurance. Read https://www.insubuy.com/visitors-insurance/ for more information.
    3. Next to each PPO plan at https://www.insubuy.com/visitor-insurance/, there is a PPO network link. You can search providers there.

thanks for quick reply. what about insurance plans that cover acute onset of pre-existing conditions? Shouldnt that cover? Then what is the benefit of a plan that covers acute onset?

btw still not sure why it would be considered pre-existing as currently there is no problem.

Yes, it is pre-existing condition and would not be covered.

Just because he does not have a problem now it does not mean it is not a pre-existing condition. It is still a condition that currently does not need anything.

E.g., people who have heart disease don't get heart attacks every day and don't need heart surgery every day.

Acute onset of pre-existing conditions is meant to cover unexpected, unforeseen emergencies occurring from pre-existing conditions. However, in your father's case, it seems it is anticipated and highly likely that he may need it. Therefore, it would still be excluded.

comparison with indian medical travel insurance that is offered

Whats is the difference in terms of medical coverage between the ones offered by US insurers and the ones offered in india through bharti AXA smart traveller insurance or AIG or any other india based travel medical insurance?

as per me, it is pay and claim. is this the one difference? will the coverage be similar?
