Transfer from J1 to valid b2

My daughter is entering the States on a J1 visa but has booked flights back
2 weeks after the 30 day grace period of the the J1 ending as she mistakenly
assumed she had 4 months on the visa. She does have a valid B2 visa so is
now planning to visit friends in Canada before her J1 expires and then re -
enter the States for two weeks on her B2 visa before flying home as her
boyfriend is flying out to meet her. Can she do this and does she need to be
out of the country in Canada for a minimum amount of time?
