Passport requirement

Have a passport which expires in 2 years time but applying for a 4 year student visa when I will return to the UK as early as this December for holiday. When they say passport must cover duration of stay - does this take into account you'll be coming back and renewing your passport in the UK, or do I need to renew the passport now, so that it expires AFTER the 4 year stay??

Your passport just needs to be valid at-least for the next 6 months. You can renew it, from within the US or on your trip to UK, at the appropriate time.
