Hello,
I am a graduate student and am currently visiting a lab in the USA with a B-1 visa that will expire in May 2018. I have got an internship offer from a company, which I believe requires a J-1 visa. My internship will start in maybe one or two months (not determined yet).
My question is: should I go back to my home country (France) and request a J-1 visa, or should I request a change of status right in the US? According to the FAQ (https://www.immihelp.com/exchange-visitor-faq/, question 3), the change of status request may take at least several months, so I would like to have your advice.
