Default What is considered "sufficient funds"?

My husband and I are trying to get his mom here from India for a visit. My husband is starting a business and therefore no income. I make 54k/yr.

My parents are very close to his parents...they invited them to India 2yrs ago and now my parents want his mom to come here so they can show her the US as they showed them India. My parents make a lot more money than we do at this time... my mom makes upwards of 100k/yr and my fathers income increases that significantly.

Should I sponsor my mother-in-law, or should my parents invite her here for a visit (to meet our family, see her son, etc) and sponsor her?

If my MIL were to sponsor herself, how much of a regular bank balance for 6mos or whatever....would be considered sufficient?

Please help... we really want to invite her here to give her a nice vacation... but we are unsure as to how to go about with sponsorship. We doubt she can be self-sponsored, so info on how we should go about with sponsorship is helpful.

Either you or your parents can sponsor them. Either way is fine.

There is really no accurate definition of sufficient funds, sufficient to take care of expenses while in the US. Something like $5,000 per person should be enough.
