Default marriage and adjustment of status

    Hello,

I have a question about marriage. I am a citizan of Croatia and my wife is a US citizen and we got married in the United Kingdom. After a while, I left for the US to continue my studies on an F-1 visa and my wife stayed in the UK to work because her contract had not expired yet.

We have been married for one year now but have lived seperately for a couple of months. We intend to spend the next summer in Croatia where I intend to apply for an immigrant visa, and if things go well, we will move to the US together.

What do you think would be the best way to adjust my status? May we experience hardships with adjusting my status because we have spent some time apart and do you recommend that I apply for my status while we are in Croatia at the US consulate or when we return to America. ( I will still be a full-time student and have a valid F-1 visa ).

    Thank you
