    Default Travelling to US after a gap of 9yrs

    Hi All,
    My Mother-in-law has a 10 yr visitor visa(my husband on H1 B is the sponsor) which expires in Feb 2008 and her passport expires in March 2008.She had earlier travelled to US in 1997-98 and would like to visit us for 2 months.is it necessary to renew her passport before she travels?Would there be any issue at the Port of entry since there has been a long gap between the visits and her visa/passport will expire in 6 months?Do i need to send her any docs from my part?Please help.

    Regards
    laksn

    There is no need to renew the passport if she will return to India before her passport expires. If her passport expires during her stay in US, she will have to renew it with the Indian embassy/consulate in your area of residence.

    There won't be any issues with a long interval from the last visit.
    They are concerned if you travel too frequently to US;
    not if you do not.

    They just ask you your purpose of visit and length of stay and do not always ask for any documents.Still, to be on a safer side, she should carry an invitation letter from you stating your address, tel no., and visa status.
