Please Help

I came to the U.S on F1 visa and after getting a masters in Secondary
Education here, I applied for a teaching position in an Islamic School. I
worked in this school for one year on OPT and then before my OPT expired I applied for an R1 visa since our school is affiliated to the masjid or a
religious institution. I was approved of an R1 visa for an year in 2005.
When I sent the papers for an extension on April 20th 2006 I got a reply
in June for a RFE (request for evidence) by the USCIS. My attorney mailed all the required paper. The RFE was 3 pages long and had many detailed questions we tried to answer many as we could. We resent the papers on Sept 5th 2006 and since then have not had any update or change in my status. Can you please help. Do you know how long it can take? What can we do from our side to speed up things? Your answer will be much ppreciated.
