Default How can i change my status to F1 from B1/B2 ?

    Hi friends,
I came to US on a B1/B2 category and wishing to pursue a MS program now. I have not disclosed any intention of studying over here at POE. So how can I change my visa status from B to F1 ? Can I change my status here itself or I will have to go to my home country and get it stamped there and come back ? Which is the best option ? I have not yet applied to any college but i am plannig to do so.

First, when you went to the consulate to get a B-1/B-2 visa, you sworn that you are ONLY going there for the slated purpose. You need to honor that and return to your home country. If you have intention of studying, better go back to your home country and get a F-1 visa stamp from there.

If the COS from B-1 -> F-1 is denied you will be out-of-status from the date of the I-94 expiry and your B-1/B-2 visa will be in jeopardy. Secondly even if you manage to get a COS to F-1, when you leave the country for whatever reason, you will need to get a F-1 entry stamp. The consulate folks will then HAVE THEIR DAY with you. It will be extremely difficult to get a F-1 stamp at that time.
