Do not tell them to lie.

It is ok to fly after getting the visa, even if it is 7-8 months. For as long as the visa is valid they can use it.

    Default Travel after 7 months

    Hi,
What will you do if your parents in law get only 6 months visa. No one can foresee the duration of the visa for a B1/B2 applicant. You will know only when you collect the passport.

In your pils' case, you have 2 options:
    1. Just postpone their visa interview to another 6 months - in that case they need not lie about their travel dates.
    or,
    2. Just go ahead with the same interview date and let them give their travel date, say after 2 weeks from the date of interview - in that case they can console themselves that they are planning for visa and travel after 7 month, (provided they get visa for more than 6 months)
