Lost passport and I-797A form - restamping

Hi All,

I lost my passport and I797A last week. I am going to India on Nov 10,2007.
I got my duplicate passport but I don't have duplicate 797A. Can I attend US consulate in India without original 797A?

I already got my visa stamped in Mexico. My company attorney says that it should not be a problem as I already have stamping and also alll other supporting documents from my company.

Please share your experiences.
