I797 lost

Hi,
The mail attorney sent was lost in transit . It had my I797 . I need to attend the chennai consulate for visa renewal( 3 yrs still left). Can i attend the consulate with the copy of I797 and supporting documents that say a duplicate was applied for and a letter from the company .Would it to be problem at the port of entry. I am also getting married. So can my wife attend for H4 visa . I appreciate your response.

Original is needed for visa appointments in the past. Now, due to the introduction of PMIS, the consulate might make an exception as the information is verifiable easily now. Just email and ask.
